Oh yeah! I’ve been using a self tanner for the probably past 10 years, and I usually use it early in the Spring, just to prevent my body to look like a ghost, when i’m trying to show off some legs, and sometimes in the Summertime,to actually correct a sun tan,and banish some tan lines.
Things you need to do to achieve a perfect self tan:
SHAVE any areas where you don’t want hair before self tanning. For women, that may mean the legs, underarms and bikini area. For guys, this may be the face and chest.
EXFOLIATE your skin before application. You’ll get the best results sloughing off those dead skin cells before application. I even like to dry brush before shower,so that will help too.
DRY SKIN Make sure your skin is completely dry after shaving and exfoliating. You also want to get all of the moisture out of the air (so no steamy bathrooms). Water is the enemy of self tanning products for the first hour or two after application!
USE GLOVES/MITT To prevent hand/palm staining,is great to use a tanning glove/tool.I don’t have one,so I wash hands right away,sometimes multiple times.
ASK FOR HELP Now how are you gonna apply that on the middle of your back? Ask for an extra pair of hands,or use a brush with the mitt on,etc.
AVOID to self tan knees and elbows, because they are naturally darker,so you don’t want to look like you sat on knees and elbows 😉 or after your done, wipe them off with a wet towel.
DRY Allow your skin to completely dry after application. I usually let my skin dry for about 30 minutes to 1 h (yes, naked!). I like to self tan in the evening, let it dry,go to sleep, and shower in the morning,so you don’t have a lingering self tan scent.
CLEAN IT UP Self-tanner mistakes happen, but there’s no need to start from scratch when they do. If streaks or splotches appear, rub half a lemon on the area for two minutes before lightly buffing it with a damp towel.
DO NOT Do not self tan the same day you need to go to a big event.Do it a week before, and re-apply 2-3 days before.Fool proof!
So I currently have 2 self tanner products that I will compare, because they are that different.
Now these two are both a mousse, very easy to apply and absorb. They both give an even application as expected.Vita Liberata it has that unique self tan scent, like burned skin, like most self tanner do,and Eco Tan doesn’t,but it doesn’t smell like chocolate either,as described, haha.
