I’ve been planning about 6 months ago to go watch the Hot Air Balloons, because I’ve never seen one before and was something I wanted to scratch off my Bucket List.
The The Great Galena Balloon Race it’s held yearly at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa and is a 3 day event, and is a fundraiser to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and Camp Hertko Hollow, a camp for kids with type 1 diabetes.
Price: 5$ everyone over 5 years old
This spectacular 3 day event features over 20 hot air balloons, two races, two night glows, tethered rides, a car show, live music, activities for the whole family, and a Friday night Alefest.
I’ve attended Saturday June 18 and it was packet with lots of people, mostly family type with kids, and wasn’t chaotic. You could bring a chair or blanket and sit on the glass without struggle.
Here’s the live band, and don’t be fooled by their age, because they played really good music.
The car show for car fans was easy to browse and we even found Mater,a kids cartoon character.
Here is before the show started
Once the balloons started to inflate, everybody got very excited.Ballon after balloons were popping up and up in the air and the music kept playing along with it.
They also offered tethered rides(a sample ride) for 5$ that was also for charity, but if you didn’t knew to jump and sit in the line fast, they line had a really long waiting time, and might not get you enough to get there,to do that.
As the evening set,the balloon returned and they created a beautiful light glow show.
This Race started in 2001 and is held every year in 3rd week of June.
Overall, this is a great family event to attend ,relax and enjoy the show in a great atmosphere.
If you are interested in a ballon ride BuyABalloonRide.com they are offering rides thru the whole warm season.
How are you spending your summer?
I would be so happy there!!!!
