If you didn’t know, most of conventional foundation powders that you find at major retailers, are made with a base made of TALC, and even though is suggested as SAFE to use in cosmetics, after the Johnson & Jonson lawsuit regarding their talc products made especially for babies and everyday use on your skin, brought that talc is NOT SAFE, Johnson & Johnson’s baby products containing talc were discovered to contain asbestos, which is a cancer-causing agent. Inhaling Talc can irritate the nose, throat and lungs, but I invite you to do your own research about it. In the meantime, I personally avoid it and these days there are several alternatives that are proven to be safer.

In this blog I wanted to bring together few brands, nontoxic and zero waste foundation powders, great to use during how summer days or if you have normal to oily skin tone. Most of these are made in the USA but I’ve included some well known Canadian brands as well.

There are not that many brands out there and also I never found and organic version of a powder yet, but if you want to try, you can always try from your pantry few organic flours that can act great as foundation powders, such as arrowroot powder mixed with some cocoa to get your right shade.

ROOT PRETTY Pearl Mineral Foundation Powder $16-$18

Made with only 4 ingredients, this is a mineral powder foundation that will also give you some SPF coverage. It can be built up from a light to a full coverage depending on the application. When applied with a brush will give light coverage, with a beauty blender medium to full, and it can also be mixed with water to create a full coverage liquid foundation and concealer. It comes in a plastic container, but the refills are in a compostable cellophane so that’s what I always buy. Also check their setting powder that also combiner refill pouches: Super Matte Setting Silk (for oily skin) & Organic Aloe Setting Silk (for dry skin) .

Mineral based with some SPF coverage, light and silky with a natural luminous finish.

PURE ANADA Pressed Sheer Matte Foundation $18.3

This is a mineral foundation powder partially made with organic ingredients that gives some SPF. Matte finish and it comes in 8 shades. Cardboard packaging sold separate but super affordable. I actually bought my big Z palettes from their website because their prices rock!
