How looking at fish in an aquarium can help relax your mind!

*Post in Collaboration with Aquarian

Growing up, my father loved having around all kind of pets (birds – such as finches, some rescued from outdoors – such as pigeons) hamsters, tropical fish, and more , taking great care and giving lots of attention to them, but only later in life I’ve understood, that it was a hobby for him, but also a need for the brain to help relax and be preoccupied with.

Before all the big boom of electronic devices, tv, media and such, life was more quiet and people had more time to have such hobbies, which I’ve noticed are need for the brain! You don’t understand it, until you look at others peoples pets, and you never get tired to check how they are doing, if they are doing well, if they need anything, and simply just pet and care for them. Because us as humans beings we want to share that care and give our attention, a pet seems such a good idea, to give us satisfaction and pleasure to the brain, but to also help relax.

Unconsciously, I’ve ended up having an aquarium with tropical fishes, since growing up I always had one. Even now as a grown up adult, I can stare for hours and look at the fish moving around, eat, breed, and just plainly live. I get a sense of peace and calm that can’t be described, but it is scientifically proven.

Our aquarium started with some Guppy‘s that kept breeding multiplying by themselves, we aded some Neon for some color, an Albino Shark, and the rest is history.

Put your volume high so you can hear the relaxing water sound

In a recent study, aquarium therapy was found to reduce heart rate by as much as 3% in just 10 minutes – helping an individual feel calm and relaxed. It’s hoped that such treatment could be in particular to benefit to those with anxiety and panic disorders.

The same study also revealed that watching an aquarium might help lower blood pressure, in some cases by as much as 4%. This effect increased as fish were added and probably your interest to see how they new fish are doing, proving the potential power of aquarium therapy in treating physical ailments related to the heart.

Almost every study into the effects of aquarium therapy found that it might help to decrease muscle tension, an ailment which contributes to a range of physical and mental conditions. It’s hoped that repeat treatments could help reduce chronic pain and ease the symptoms of conditions like anxiety.

Watching colorful fish swim has always been an enjoyable experience, so it makes sense that might help to boost mood. Several studies have reported a great improvement in people’s moods after watching an aquarium display, confirming that our gilled friends can indeed make us feel happier and more relaxed.

Setting up and maintaining an aquarium is easier than you think, and you can master it in a few days.

When you start up your first aquarium for tropical fish, you need to have a water filter, heater, thermometer, and some add ons to help maintain and improve the life of the fish. You can find Aquarian products to help with a new tank, adding new fish, cleansing a tank, fix cloudy water and treating diseases.

Fishkeeping doesn’t have to be difficult to understand or expensive, so that’s why I’ll introduce you to the AQUARIAN brand, exclusively sold at Walmart.

Depending on the size of the aquarium, only a certain size and quality of fish can be added, to make sure they are not stressed and overpopulated.

Adding Aquarian Aquarium Kick Start to a new fishtanks is scientifically proven to quickly consume ammonia and nitrite to help prevent fish loss and allowing for the immediate addition of fish.  Aquarian Aquarium Kick Start is safe to use in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

The Aquarian Cloudy Water Fix can clear up green or cloudy water caused by gravel and other floating particles in your freshwater aquarium quickly and safely, by quickly eliminating cloudy water caused by floating particles and make your aquarium water crystal clear. Cloudy Water Fix is safe for use in freshwater aquariums only.

The Aquarian Aquarium Cleaner contains over 300 million live bacteria per teaspoonful to consume sludge and organic debris in your aquarium. Regular use of Aquarium Cleaner keeps gravel and glass clean naturally and boosts the natural aquarium cycle, reducing aquarium maintenance over time.

The Aquarian Ammonia Remover works instantly to detoxify ammonia from the tank. Fish continually release ammonia into the aquarium through their gills, urine and solid waste and ammonia is the #1 killer of freshwater fish. Uneaten food and decaying organic matter also add ammonia to the water.  Even small amounts of ammonia stress fish and large amounts of ammonia will kill fish.

The Aquarian Instant Dechlorinator instantly removes chlorine and neutralizes chloramines from tap water every time you clean an aquarium or add more water to the tank. Good water quality is the key to a healthy, beautiful aquarium. Most tap water contains chemicals, such as chlorine and chloramines, which make water safe for people to drink, but they are highly toxic to fish.

The Aquarian Melacure is an antibacterial treatment that heals bacterial infections and repairs damaged fins, ulcers and open wounds, usually within a week using a natural active ingredient. Disease is often difficult to detect in fish, particularly in its early stages, but bacterial infections can destroy tissue and other organs. If left untreated, it can ultimately lead to death for your fish.

Aquarian also has on their website a DOSING CALCULTAOR that can help you calculate how much product you need to add depending on the tank size.

These studies are such a great reminder, to slow down our fast paced lives, and just stare into a fish tank at some fishes, to simply boost our health in such a simple way, a way we forgot a while ago.

Now I’m off to look at my fish!
